processor upgrade available?

I have an HP D530 Desktop with a Pentium 4 2.4ghz processor, & I also have an HP DC5700 desktop with a Pentium 3.2 ghz processor. Is there a upgrade processor available for either desktop?

I have found some on ebay. Will the motherboards support the change? & will I also need to change the heat sink and fans?

Hi:

You can just install the processor.

There are no other fans or heat sinks available, and I installed that processor on 4 of my d530's and they ran just fine.

Just make sure you clean the processor heat spreader and the bottom of the heat sink very thoroghly with alcohol before applying the new thermal paste.

That is very good to know, I did not want to wreck anything. Does the same thing go for the DC5700?

I just wanted to make sure as I ordered the pentium 4 3.2 from ebay and when it arrived they had wrote a note on the bottom saying "make sure your board support 800 FSB" and I had no idea what they were talking about so wanted to be safe and check with you.

Yes, the d530 supports an 800 MHz FSB.

Most of them came standard with the P4 2.66 processors with the 533 MHz FSB, which is why they probably wrote that note. the d530 supports both the 533 and 800 fsb speeds.

Back in the day, I really went to town on the d530.  I installed the 3.2 GHz processor and then we get hyperthreading, faster processing speed and the 800 MHz FSB speed.

I installed a 128 MB GeForce 6200 agp video card to free up system memory (and then you can also run W7 and have aero).

I removed the PC2700 memory that came standard and replaced that with 4 x 1 GB of PC3200 memory to increase the memory speed from 333 MHz to 400 MHz, and of course that also maxed out the memory capacity to 4 GB.

I replaced the IDE hard drive and CD drive with a SATA hard drive and dvd drive. 

That way I got rid of all those wide ribbon cables inside.  There are two sata ports on the motherboard that are hard to see.   And the hard drive then has 1.5 GB sata transfer speed instead of the 1 GB IDE transfer speed.

That was one heck of a machine back in the day, but I have since given all of mine away.
