Hi
I have a new Pavilion P7-1030. Windows7. I have installed the 'D' drive (sata) from my old computer instead of porting the files. I used new power & signal cables. The drive is not being recognized. The computer boots fine but just doesn't see the drive. I've reseated the cables and tried the other Sata connector on the motherboard.
Any suggestions?
Regards

Are you certain that the power and data connectors are properly connected on the 'D' drive (sata)?
If you replace the drive from the old PC with the new drive and OEM connector is the drive recognized by the BIOS?
Best regards,

Hi,
At this point I have swapped out the new signal cable for the working signal cable from the old computer and swapped the 'D' drive to a different power connector in the new computer.
The drive is not recognized by windows or the bios.
I'm not sure what you mean by new drive. There is no new drive. I'm taking an existing drive from my old computer and inserting it as a second sata drive in my new computer. I'm referencing the old drive as 'D'. It's a sata drive.
Regards

I meant to say the old drive. It was a matter of differentiating between the two.
Is the old drive still recognized in the old PC?
IN the old drive were you using ACHI or IDE emulation sata drivers?
Is the old drive from a 64-bit operating system and is the new PC a 32-bit OS?
regards,
Erico

It was as of last night when I shut the old computer down.

Sorry didn't see all the questions.
IN the old drive were you using ACHI or IDE emulation sata drivers?
Don't know. How do I tell? It was in an XP system
Is the old drive from a 64-bit operating system and is the new PC a 32-bit OS?
The old system was 32bit. New is 64bit

Hi Sunny,
There are a couple of things that you review in the bios. Go to the setup menu and first run some diagnostics.
Proceed to the Computer Setup (F10) and navigate to Storage and Device Configuration. Do you see the second hard drive listed?
You can also check the Device type emulation in the below screen.
BTW, it is sunny in FL today.![]()

BIg-Dave,
SunnyFL is trying to add an XP OS (active boot) to the system just by plugging it in to the new WIN7 system.
I think the original commentary by SunnyFL might be useful, quoting:
I will be adding a drive from my old computer to my new Pavilion Desktop. The drive from my old computer is already named 'D' and I would prefer to keep the drive letter the same so I don't have to change existing file references.
Can I rename the 'D' HP RECOVERY partition to another letter without any problem? In other words, is the drive letter 'D' significant to any of the recovery processes? If I named the partition 'R' HP RECOVERY am I good?
To say THANK YOU, press the white star on the left, to render a KUDO.
Please click Accept as Solution, just to the right of my reply if your problem is solved.
PS--You can render both Solution and KUDO

Hi Big Dave,
In device configuration, the bios is showing only the original 1TB sata drive the computer came with as Sata0 and the cd/dvd drive as sata2. My additional drive does not show in the bios at all.
Storage options show AHCI
The F2 diagnostics run on the 1TB drive.
I'm doing F10 at boot to get into bios. I never see that first setup menu you show. Don't know if it is important.
I also don't see where I can enable a 'channel'. Perhaps I am dating myself. I remember having to go into bios (in the olden days) on occasion to enable a channel (ide) so a drive could be seen. I suspect, that should happen automatically now.
Only partly sunny at the moment just north of Sarasota
Claudia

It's strictly a data drive. There is no OS on it.
