Adding RAM causing problems

I have a HP Compaq 8200 Elite Convertible Minitower running Windows 7 Pro (64 bit).  It came with one card of 4GB 2Rx8 PC3-10600U-9-121-B1 RAM. I put the same thing in the similar colored slot to get me to 8GB and when I do, it wont boot up.  At least I cant see any activity on my monitor or hear the hard drive working.

Any thoughts as to why?

I have an 8200 Elute CMT, and added 3 x 4 GB of PC3-10600 memory and maxed mine out to 16 GB.

Are you installing the second chip in DIMM3?  That is what you need to do.

4 GB, 0 GB, 4 GB, 0 GB.

If this is what you have done, then the memory is porbably defective.

Try it in another slot and see what happens just to make sure the motherboard isn't bad. The memory should be recognized in DIMM 2 or 4 but you will get a memory configuration error,.

Thanks Paul. Yes, I put it in slot 3 (Same color) and then turn in our and never see anything on my screen. Same thing happens when it was in Slot 2.

OK, then to prove the chip is bad, remove the known good chip and put the one you just bought in the slot.

If the PC doesn't start, you got a bad memory module for sure.

I hope that you are doing all of this with the PC unplugged.
