Pavilion Slimline S5-1224
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

I updated when it was free. Had several issues with update from Win 8, got stuck during install, errors, etc.  Yes, I ran the compatibility tool first. Checked out okay.

Win 10 finally completed seemed to work okay until reboot. Would get stuck in boot loop, errors, blue screen with cursor, in safe mode and sometimes boot okay.

Now I have nothing, blue screen & no cursor.

I have tried booting to safe mode, removing the battery, connecting to different monitor and using different ports, booting from Win 8 CD, reseating video card, etc. I became frustred and purchased another pc.

I'm ready to tackle this again as I have data I need to recover. I know this is a issue for a lot of people. Any suggetions to try would be great!

Thank you in advance.

Hello ASB1216

If you have data to recover, I would remove the hard drive and connect it to another PC.

How to remove the hard drive.

It can easily be connected to another desktop with a SATA cable. Laptops would need a powered SATA to USB adapter.

If the data is corrupted, then I would scan the drive for issues.

How to run disk-error-checking

You say that Windows 10 has worked a couple of times. Has it ever been connected to the internet and checked for any updates?

If so, it will be registered with Microsoft and if needed, you will be able to clean re-install Windows 10 via the Media Creation Tool and a USB thumb drive.

IF the hard drive is not physically failing, you would do best to reinstall. But this will of course remove any current data, thus why I mentioned to connect the drive to another PC first for data retrieval.

Just my 2 cents.
