Am back again, thanks to all for the help you have gave me!!!
hp e9260f, win 7 pro 64 bit, also has xp mode.
i5-750, 2.67ghz. 8gb ram. Two questions..
1 - machine went from a boot up time of about 20 seconds
to 2 minutes, no reason, nothing was installed, software
or hardware except udates from windows and hp, required
updates not ones i picked. Exact same time, no idea if has
anything to do with it. My dvd hp-dh16aal starts going crazy.
Thought i needed to use restore cd's. Since it would not boot
at all at first, got to hp screen then the cursor left top of screen
just sat there. DVD sounds like its chewing up the disk. I did something
right not sure what so it does boot up now. In two minutes, cursor sits
there going crazy but it will boot. DVD still is a mess no mater what you
put in it. Anyone had this happen?

Dave, Do you have ESP or something?
I got that Samsung 30 minutes ago.
I put that thing in and boot up went
from 2 minutes back to 20 seconds!!!!!!!!!!!!
Free Nero9 added benefit. Did nothing
but change the drive, thats all. Tackle
memory thing shortly, play with this
Samsung a while. Its very fast, extremly
quiet. Thanks Dave!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you can get to the HP blue screen then enter setup (F10) and run some diagnostics.
You may have to go back to a known good system restore point. Do you have Norton AV on your PC?

Sorry Dave been away. Tried f10 no problems found.
Now that you mention it, it didnt start doing that until
I took Norton off. Didnt activate it though just took it
off and put on free AVG. DVD player is shot though.
Put any cd-dvd in it it just grinds away. What type
of dvd player/burner works on mine? I think a SATA
type but not sure. Thanks for your help Dave, sorry
took so long to answer.

If you need a new CD/DVD player then go with an internal Samsung SH-223L SATA lightscribe drive. It's $25 at www.newegg.com. It will take at 20 minutes max to install.
Do you have a set of the HP Recovery disks? Or, try F11 at the HP blue screen and see if your recovery paritiion will boot. Be sure to backup your data.

Samsung on order, great site thanks for the link!
Yes i made the restore disks. F10 at screen works,
no problems found. F11 dont, no idea why. Every
(F) works at that screen but that one. Will try again
when I get the new drive. Thanks Dave!!!

My brand new HP pavillion deskop is doing this, took an age to boot up and an age to shutdown. All I did was make a once of backup to my Flash drive. The first time I booted up after backing up, the Windows display was flashing on the bit that radiate out from the square icon
Not sure if its cure itself, I am afraid to power down
