Pavilion dv5
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Okay, so recently I found an old hp laptop of my dad's and he let me keep it. I know it's had some problems in the past so I went online and found ways on how to fully factory reset it, I tried numerous tips and tricks but none matched either the menu or the options. What I'm trying to figure out is how to PROPERLY and ACCURATELY factory reset the Pavilion dv5, which is running on Windows 7 home premium.

Hi:

Here are the various methods you can use to reset the PC.

If none of those work, you will have to order a set of recovery disks for the specific model dv5 you have.

When I log in, it's nothing but a black screen with a command prompt window open, I can't do anything from inside the computer, logged in I mean, but if there is a way to rest from outside the computer, like within the recovery window or the menu you get when you press f10 while starting it, I'd like to know..

When you start the PC, tap the F11 key at the HP welcome screen to launch the recovery program.

If that doesn't work, you will need to order recovery media.
