@EBJ693 wrote:I can tell you that I use a microsoft wireless mouse, so thats not my problem. Although, as I said before, I have not tried everything you have so I may have to look over some of your previous trys to eliminate them as possibilities. I hate using you as a guinea pig but if you decide to reinstall windows and it works I will give it a try myself. Thanks for the update.
I did uninstall the Logitech Setpoint software and attempted another upgrade but it failed. I'm not that confident disconnecting the min USB receiver, uninstalling Logitech Setpoint and using another mouse/keyboard combination will be the fix but I'm going to puruse it anyway. As for a fresh install, I'm a 100% confident that will work as I've done that in the past with other PCs. However, that's a reset button since it formats the hard drive and re-installs Windows. It requires you to back all your documents/etc up and re-install all applications which is a PITA. I'm not a fan as it's a lot of work to get things back to the way you like it. I really wish the Win10 failure told me more about why it fails. You'd think there be some type of log you could submit to the powers to be that could at least point me in the right direction. I actually have a spare hard drive here I could dedicate to testing the fresh install. It's not the SSD I have installed currently but I could certainly install Win10 1607 on it and boot the PC as a test.

Welcome to HP Support Forums. 🙂 I came across your post and would like to help.
I understand that you have an HP ENVY 700-059c Desktop PC with Win10 as the current operating system. I read that the Win10 1607 update does not happen. I appreciate the steps you have performed and have certainly done a good job.
I would like to know the following information to assist you better:
- Do you receive an error message while trying perform the update?
- Did you try other options to install the update, viz: Windows Update, Microsoft Media Creation Tool and The Windows Insider Program (If your computer or phone is enrolled for it) ?
Meanwhile, please try to install the Windows Update Troubleshooter and check if it helps.
Feel free to keep me posted on the results. All the best! 🙂

Thank you for responding to my post. I have received error 0x80004005 in the past, several times, but I havn't gotton that one lately. I have run the Widows Update Troubleshooter and it said everything was fixed. I'm not sure I understand how Microsoft Media Creation Tool and The Windows Insider Program would help me with this problem, but I'm willing to try if you will explain. Today I tried another suggestion I found online which was deleting all files from Windows (C)/Windows/Sofware Distribution/Download folder and I still get the message in Settings/Update and Security/Advanced options/View your update history "Feature update to Windows 10, version 1607, Failed to install on 02/03/2017". As I said I have been trying to get this update for a long time now, any help you can provide would be appreciated.

HP support agent Jeet_singh promised me on 02/03/2017 that I would get a response of some kind and since it hasn't appeared yet, I decided to try using the media creation tool and updating Windows 10 with it, as suggested by HP support agent MKasi in a previous post. The result was yet another failure with the error code 0x080004005. This is one of the most frustrating senarios I have ever had with a computer. The reason I posted on the HP forum was that I'm beginning to think that the problem is specific to my computer and others like it. I have a Dell laptop and I experienced no problem whatsoever updating Windows 10 to the latest version on that unit. Please help!

At this point I'm pretty sure no one at HP really cares whether I solve this problem. Today I recieved an email from HP steering me to look at a post from someone who has the identical problem I have. If HP would have actually read the post, as I did, they would have found another frustrated customer looking for help. The aforementioned customer has a desktop which sounds very similar to mine. He has seemingly tried every online tip or solution that I have tried and then some, many of them were things that I couldn't hope to attempt because I don't have the skill level required to perform them. After outlining a myriad of things that he has done the sad conclusion of the post was that he was still unable to update his computer to the latest version of Windows 10. If any body at HP would like to check it out and actually read this post here is the link. http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Operating-Systems-and-Recovery/Desktop-won-t-finish-installing-...
Please help those of us who are struggling with this problem and actually look into it.

Updating the operating system of a computer shold be an easy task and in most cases happens without any user input, only requiring a restart. Please help those of us who are struggling with this problem and actually look into it.

I agree the update process should be easy. However, the Win10 Anniversary update is anything but an update. It's essentially an in place upgrade to a new operating system. I'm at the point now that the only solution I can see working is simply formatting and re-installing windows again using the Win10 Anniversary ISO from a DVD. I really loath doing this as I would have to re-install all my apps and re-instate my settings across all programs. I may try going back to an earlier restore point to see if I can make that work instead but that's a guessing game at best.

I really appreciate you responding to my post. I will be keeping tabs on your posts to see if reinstalling Windows 10 will be a fix for this problem. I had to do this once before just after I purchased this PC, I can't recall what the problem was that motivated me to do this and I don't remember whether it actually solved the problem, but it really was a pain to reinstall and reconfigure the computer to where it was before I did the reinstall. I wish you luck. I know it sounds pretty whiny of me to complain about HP's responses on this forum but sometimes the frustration just bubbles over.

No problem, and I just fnished trying the built-in Intel grapchics card. I had to go into BIOS, enable the Intel graphics card and then upgrade it's drivers. I then shut the PC off and removed the NVIDIA card and re-attempted the Win10 1607 upgrade but unfortunately it didn't work. So it's unlikely that's the culprit but I did see another article about Logitech wirless Mice/Keyboards and their Setpoint being potential issues. I'll have to get another keyboard/mouce combination to try and unintstall Logitech Setpoint to see if that works. That's actually my last option before I'd have to do a clean install. I also found it interesting MS posted a clean install script for those looking to upgrade to Win10 1607:
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10startfresh
This does the same thing as formatting and re-installing Windows which is what I prefer to avoid. Bottom line, there is either an update or driver that this update simply doesn't like so I may be left with no choice but to clean install.
