Update: Cloud Image Recovery Issue
Serial number#***72005HC
Z5L84AA#ABA
1. Ran full diagnostic check on the system (hours that one will never get back) no issues identified
2. w10 installation was absolutely trouble-free.
3. installed the latest bio's 2020 from hp
4. re-tried the cloud recovery image, and noticed it crashed at a different point during the installation, the second attempt w/ image same crash point? makes one think the bios configuration could possibly be a partial issue.
5. w10 installation (thinking this might also be where part of the issue might be?)
6. w10 installation
a. The w10 installation identifies disk 0 as the 1TB drive and disk 1 as the 128 GB PCIe NVM@ M.2 SSD. w10 by default wanted to install the OS onto the 1 TB drive (disk 0), had to direct the installation to use (disk 1) 128 GB SSD for the OS installation.
b. has me thinking the HP Cloud Recovery Image is being installed on one drive during the installation, and after a reboot, the system can not find the boot commands as it is looking on the wrong drive?
c. considered disconnecting the 1 TB drive from the system, but disassembly of this particular PC looks like a task, I will take a pass on that for now.
7. I had ordered the HP image from the 3rd party (surgeons.com) prior to this thread, should arrive in a day or two, will try it as an experiment, before identifying the w10 install is the only option at this point.

Yes, I always recommend temporarily disconnecting the mechanical hard drive when using the cloud recovery tool on a PC that has dual drives, but as you wrote, on that model it is easier said than done.
There is no service manual I could find...the one on the support page is useless, but I did find this discussion where a HP rep posted the step-by-step instructions to open up the PC.

Are you getting a different error message this time, or is it the same as in your first reply?
If it is the same as in your first reply, then I still think the image itself is bad.
If it is different, then I tend to agree with your opinion that the tool is confused by the two disks.

The crash/halt scene was different, on the previous bio's the crash/halt screen provided the small message box with the three options previously mentioned, With this newer bio's version, it came up the recovery/repair system screen. A blue screen, it was late!, but it was more of a native screen to repair your windows OS? Obviously, none of the options on the screen resolved the issue.
I am wondering if disconnecting the 1 TB drive will resolve the installation conflict? **bleep**, pain in the A** to disassemble.

Ok, just to help someone else experiencing this issue, the purchased recovery USB from (surgeons.com) was probably the same USB image you download from the cloud yourself; it did not work!
Finished up the installation with w10, no issues.
Thanks everyone,
John
