So im very afraid my laptop will die and I wont be able to recover the information I have stored on it. On the charging icon, it appears to be charging, but when I hover the mouse over it, it says 18% available (plugged in,not charging) .. What can I do to fix this? Do I need to buy a new battery? If so, where can I purchase one? I have an HP Pavilion g7 series.

Hello, @Noel148 - Hope you are well 🙂
Welcome to the HP Forum! This is a wonderful location to converse with the community, get assistance and find tips.
I understand that you are having an issue with your notebook where it is showing “Plugged in, but not charging”. I will certainly help you fix this issue 🙂
Let’s first try these steps to try and charge the laptop:
- First, perform a hard reset and check. You can follow the steps here: http://hp.care/2dlWJuT
- Check for the issue resolution and if the issue persists, go to the next step.
- Shutdown the computer (not sleep or hibernate) – Shout down the product completely.
- Plugin ac-adaptor and let it charge until full, a few hours probably (do not start PC during this time).
- Check whether the notebook is charged now.
Also, try calibrating the battery and also test the battery for any hardware failures as suggested here: http://hp.care/2m1iCDm
Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance.
Good luck 🙂
