HP Z240 SFF Workstation
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

New computer just purchased this month directly from HP.

The computer was advertised as "Windows 7 Professional (available through downgrade rights from Windows 10 Pro".

I thought the computer would install as Windows 10 Pro and then could be downgraded to Win 7 Pro.  But it installed as Win 7 Pro.  It came with 2 Operating System DVDs, one for Win 10 Pro and one for Win 7 Pro.  Both DVD's say the software and drivers are already installed and they are for reinstallation and repair only.  And I read that both licenses for Win 10 Pro and Win 7 Pro are included and  installed.

So my question is how do I change the OS from Win 7 Pro to the Win 10 Pro?

Do I have to insert the Operating System DVD for Win 10 Pro and do a complete new installation which my understanding will reformat the hard drive and remove all of Win 7 Pro.   Will this reformat only the C: drive partition or all the partitions  C: drive partition & 😧 Recovery partition & the EFI partition?

Also, if I switch the computer to Win 10 Pro can I later go back to Win 7 Pro  by going through the same process?

Thanks

Yes, you can upgrade to windows 10 with the recovry Disc and also downgrade later with the recovery Disc.

The PC will fetch the key from the BIOS during installation and you do not need to worry about activation as long as you install the OS from the supplied disc.

Yes - you can use either set of discs to remove and install the OS of your choice.  You use recovery on the hard drive (the partition you mentioned) to more quickly reinstall the Windows image that is currently installed.
