I have the HP Pavillion Model #a6838f. I recently purchased a new printer (Canon PIXMA MX922). The printer has a built-in fax, so I was wondering whether my older computer has a built-in fax software. Also, how compatible will these two products be? The serial number for my computer is MXX9140CXQ. Please email me your reply.

Hi,
Since your Canon is not an HP product therefore only Canon can answer your question. We may be able to help you but I don't know what is the current Operating system on it or it still runs Vista pre-installed as shown:
http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01690218
From the following link, printer supports Apple Mac OS X 10.6.8 or later, MS Windows 7, MS Windows 7 SP1, MS Windows Vista SP1, MS Windows Vista SP2, MS Windows XP SP3, Windows 8, Windows RT

It should have fax software and drivers on the CD which came with the printer. Please use the CD to install to your computer.
I think this should work otherwise please try Canon forum

Hello
I have a Canon MX922 and an HP PC.
The PC has no bearing on fax capabilities. A landline, a PC that will recognize the printer and fax, and the software that came with the printer is all you need.

your computer was originally shipped with Windows Vista.
Note that Microsoft will stop issuing security-fixes for Vista after April 2017 (next month!).
So, it's time to upgrade to a newer version of Windows -- your computer is "beefy" enough to run Windows 10.
Anyway, Vista supports any FAX device as an emulated "printer".
You open a program, such as Microsoft Word, and choose "print", and choose the 'FAX' as the print-device, and you'll be asked to enter the telephone-number of the other FAX.
Newer versions of Windows have the "Windows Fax and Scan" software included.
