$secure corrupted during a CHKDSK when the computer shut down durin the middle of it, and now it seems like I need to do a clean install? I have my Windows product key, but I am unsure if it'll cover all of my drivers and also Microsoft advises contacting the manufacturer for pre-installed OS's when redownloading the ISO files. Problem is my warranty has been up for a few years? Will my product key still work if I do a clean reinstall without contacting them? Will I be missing drivers that will make the computer unusable even after I reformat the drive? (video/audio etc)

Welcome to the HP Community @FloAmi!
I came across your message about the HP Desktop PC issue and wanted to pop in to help 🙂
Going through your post, I see that your Desktop was stuck on updates. Is it still stuck or the issue is resolved?
I would suggest you perform a clean install on your notebook. The product key is for a for the lifetime and you can do “n” number of clean install on your PC. Hence try a clean install and check.
Once the OS is installed, go to http://hp.care/2ps5FiZ to install the drivers.
Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance!
Good luck 🙂
