I ran into a similar problem a while back on an older HP Media Center PC and after confirming that the case fan WAS working, I went into the BIOS and disabled the notification message -- and the PC worked fine after that.


So, the first thing to do is confirm whether or not the fan is actually running.


With a desktop, you can open the case and SEE if the fan is actually spinning.


If it is spinning, then you need to look in the BIOS settings to see if there is an option to turn off that message, as this is indicating that a fan sensor has failed but the fan is working OK.


If it is not spinning, then you need to replace it -- which is a simple and cheap process as desktop fans don't cost much and are usually mounted with four screws.
