Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

For no apparent reason, PC does no longer wakes up from sleep.  Before making this request, I have already done the following:

A) checked and confirmed that my Video card driver is the latest available and the device is working properly

B) Rebooted from cold start several times

C) Checked to make sure the keyboard is enabled to wake the computer

D) Checked the HP Support Assistant to verify I have the latest BIOS and lack no other updates

E) Double Checked Control Panel/Power Options/Edit Plan Settings Computer is to never sleep

After the time selected in Edit Plan Settings for Turn Off the Display expires, the monitor goes dark, and will no amount of mouse or keyboard action has any effect.  The system must be powered down with the PC power button and rebooted.

I have not installed any apps in many months.  Two days ago, we did have a power interruption that required that I reboot the router, but that was the only unusual event.  This sleep problem evidenced itself AFTER the power interruption, but I cannot specifically link it to that as a potential cause.

What should I try next in troubleshooting?

Problem is (apparently) solved.  After running through all the "easy" steps suggested, wihtout effect or noticing any change in the behavior of the system, I reset the "Turn Off Display" time from 15 minutes to 2 hours.  The system has gone to sleep, and awakened normally now for a day with that setting.

Will it still work this way if I set the time back to 15 minutes?  Not interested in finding out.

Not support, and I am just guessing, but I wonder if the power outage may have reset BIOS settings.  I would start by checking BIOS for power settings there, if you haven't already.  Press F8 or F10, whichever is correct for your PC, during the intial boot sequence to enter computer setup.  Look around for "wake on LAN" or some such setting in power settings.  Make sure it's enabled.

I think the next thing I would do is check in Device Manager to see what your Network card's settings say about the wake feature.  Click on the Network adapters expander in DM and then right click on your network card driver.  Choose Properties and see if you have an "Advanced" tab.  If so check the settings associated with waking the PC.  I can't speak for "Wake on Magic Packet" or "Wake on Pattern Match", but it can't hurt to see if changing the setting(s) on your system will give you keyboard control of the monitor after it goes dark.  I have disabled these two, because I use the sleep mode for computers here, and something seems to wake the PCs when they first enter the mode.  Turning these off stops this behavior.

While you are in Device Manager, right click on the keyboard, choose Properties, and check to make sure that "Allow this device to wake the computer" is checked in the Power Management tab.  You can try the same thing with the mouse if you like.

One other thing you might try is going into your power settings and setting the monitor to sleep after 3 minutes or some such.  Walk away and see if having the monitor set that way brings the keyboard back into the sequence when you attempt to restart the monitor.  You may even find a reboot in this state worth the effort.  Also, simply disconnecting from the internet and reconnecting could possibly fix the problem.

I had a problem like this many months ago, but I can't remember what I did to correct the issue.  If I recall, I just tinkered until the problem was resolved.  Shutting down and unplugging the PC from the wall for awhile might cause a reset of some things in the monitor if you are on an all in one.  If it's a standard PC, you might try unplugging the PC and the monitor and leaving it for a bit.

OK, thanks I'lll try those --- except the keyboard settings; already checked them.

OK.  You might also and some point try a system restore to a time before the outage...

These issues are annoying. Glad you got it fixed. Anything to do with sleep seems to be this way...

I had the same problem and resolved it by
Go into Device Manager
Go to Network Adaptors
Selected RealTtk PCI

Clicked on properties/ Power Management

That is where is was marked to shut down to conserve energy.  After I unchecked it, my space bar and/or mouse now will wake up my pc again. (Windows 10, HP Pavilion
