Hello;
Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!
My own personal experience in updating some older PCs from Vista to Win7 (both a desktop and a laptop), was that (after Service Pack 1 was installed), they performed better under Win7 than they did under Vista.
But ... doing that NOW presents you with these problems:
1) Drivers -- there are no HP Win7 drivers for your PC, and while Vista drivers might work, there is no guarantee -- and if they do no, you are stuck with the generic drivers that Microsoft installs with the OS, and if you have hardware limitations after then, those will be permanent as HP is no longer writing Win7 drivers.
2) NO Upgrade Path -- with an Upgrade Path, your existing data, settings, and applications are carried over to the new OS so you don't use anything. When Vista was upgrade years ago, it was done using something known as the Anytime Upgrade -- an Upgrade version of the OS that MS supplied that allowed this. That has long since been discontinued and today, you have to Upgrade using a Win7 DVD or image -- and I don't know if it will offer you a true "upgrade" option.
3) App Upgrades -- when Win7 was new, lots of apps suppliers offered Win7 upgrades for their Vista versions, but today, those offers aren't around anymore -- so if any apps don't work under Win7, you might have to go out and purchase new versions.
Good Luck
