The instructions includea choice of ways to install the BIOS update:
This SoftPaq includes the following methods for changing the BIOS version:
- Use HPQFlash to upgrade the BIOS directly in a Microsoft Windows environment.
- Use the utilities in this package to flash the BIOS in a DOS environment from bootable media.
- Use the ROM images in this package with the Computer Setup Utility (F10) to flash the BIOS from a USB flash drive or CD-ROM drive.
I assume you are trying this update:

Hi, @The_Big_H:
TheOldMan is quite right, and the only way I update my HP business desktops is by using the F10 Flash System ROM method.
That way you don't need to worry about what Windows operating system you are runnning, conflicts with Windows processes running in the background, antivirus trying to stop the BIOS update thinking it is a virus trying to attack the BIOS...
It is easy as pie, and I have never had an issue updating the BIOS this way.
Go to the sp70415 BIOS update folder that was created when you ran the file. You will find that folder in C:\SWSetup\sp70415.
Open the BIOS Flash HTML file that shows the various methods of flashing the BIOS.
Read the info under the Startup Menu/Computer Setup BIOS Flashing section.
All you need to do is go get a USB flash drive. Format the drive with the FAT32 file system.
Click on the View Contents of the DOS Flash Folder link at the bottom of the Startup Menu/Computer Setup BIOS Flashing section.
Copy the file contents of the DOS Flash folder to your FAT32-formatted USB flash drive.
Restart the PC, and at the beginning of the HP welcome screen, tap the ESC key to get the menu of options.
Select the F10 (Computer Setup) menu to get into the BIOS.
Select the File menu, Flash System ROM option.
Select the USB flash drive and now the PC should see the BIOS update files on the flash drive.
Follow the on screen prompts to update the BIOS.
Note: I recommend you disconnect anything connected to the PC except the Keyboard, Mouse, Monitor and the flash drive with the BIOS files on it, when updating the BIOS.
