Pavilion 257c
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

I have a HP Pavillion 257c that the hard drive went out on...  I had up graded through all of them to 10...  I never got and disks or any numbers....  I bought a drive off of ebay that is a 1 tb with 8 recovery on it....  Will this work on this pos????  Nothing but problems with this thing 3 months after I bought it....  Anyone know before I accept the packege????

Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!

 

Don't know what you mean by "with 8 recovery on it" regarding the hard drive.

 

If that means the seller told you that the drive had the Recovery information for Win8, that will do you no good as, according to the HP product page for your PC, it came preinstalled with Win7 at the latest.  That means that there is no HP version of Win8 for your PC, and the product key that came with your PC will not work with Win8.

 

As to Win10, since you already upgraded to Win10, your PC is already registered with Microsoft for that OS.  Therefore, you can reinstall Win10 with media you create from this link and it will reactivate automatically once you reconnect to the Internet:  http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/media-creation-tool-install?ocid=ms_wol_win10
