Hello jonnyh321, Can you advise where you got McAfee. Did you download it or tried to install it from a CD?
If it was a download, I would suggest downloading it again and then try to install it. You may have gotten a bad download. If you have the McAfee disk, then go ahead and try to install it. Since you are probably using Outlook Express 6.0 or earlier version, after you get McAfee installed, go to Windows Updates and you will probably see Internet Explorer 8, or if not, look for IE8 and download it. You will need to update to Windows XP SP3 as well. With these updates, the missing file should be resolved.

I have tried to install mcafee via optical drive the computer would see the program but not run it. It the locked up. I have gone through the steps as mentioned before.. At one point the install stopped itself saying it had run out of memory and needed to start freeing space in memory. and restarted. But the computer keeps freezing before the final install can happen. I know you said a console restart erases everything. After I choose repair and go through the next few steps it asks if I want to repair or choose a fresh restart. When I choose repair it locks up. Does choosing fresh start erase everything like the console restart?

I have tried again the place I have the question about is; after I chose repair a screen comes up stating I have tried to repair before press enter to try again or esc to start fresh. Will starting fresh at this point erase everything?

when the computer says it was to shut down the error is BAD_POOL_CALLER. I am beging to think that I won't be able to save the computer. :-(
