Can't install two Windows security updates.

PC is Home Pavilion, running Windows 7 64-bit.

Because the pc was bought with the OS pre-installed, I can't submit a Microsoft Support Ticket, so hoping someone here can help.

First update to give me problems doesn't have a Kb number but just calls it "Windows IE9 for Windows 7 for 64-based systems". this update refuses to install (first failure date 12/04/12) and there is no way I can find to go back to IE8.

Second update goes by the number of Kb2709715. The Microsoft update screen tells me it has installed but must close to finish the installation. Fine, but when it re-boots, I get a fancy blue screen which then presents me with all kinds of stupid messages regarding "Start up items having a problem" so must do a system restore. This is impossible via both Windows and HP system restore as neither of them have worked for a year or so. However, I have Rollback RX so I have to re-boot and go back to the last boot-up.

Any suggestions, please?

(Tried to phone HP support line but the girl who answers speaks so quietly and softly, she is impossible to understand, even if she'd been speaking in my own language)

Re: Can't install two Windows security updates.

Hello Lyndy32,

Try installing the updates manually from the Microsoft Update Catalog while in a Clean Boot Mode.

A clean boot mode will allow us to rule out any additional software that may be conflicting with the software. If the installation still fails please let me know.
