I was upgrading the BIOS of my Pavilion desktop from the file SP56409.exe from the HP website. The file seemed to download normally and I began the upgrade with no other programs running. Everything seemed to be going fine with the progress bar slowly moving until an error message popped up, saying something to the effect of "This file has been corrupted - please try downloading the file again..." and then the screen went blank. Nothing I could do would would bring back anything on the monitor. As a last resort, I tried rebooting, but now only the power light comes on and nothing happens when trying to boot. Where do I go from here? The computer is only a few months old - any help would be greatly appreciated. Here are the specs of the computer:
HP Pavilion p7-1108p
Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit
6 GB RAM
AMD A4 3400 Dual Core
Motherboard = Pegatron AAHD3-HB

Hi
Please try these steps icase you are comfortable.
1) Open the panel and reseat the Memory and check if the unit works fine.
2) Try removing the CMOS/RTC wait for one mintue and connect it back again and check if unit loads to windows.
Incase both option does not work please call HP Technical support and get the unit serviced.

Thanks, Manjunath - Neither solution worked, so I guess I need to send the computer in for service - Would you be kind enough to link me to the proper place on the HP website to get this done?
Thx

I agree that HP tech support is the one to turn to in this sort of situation. I experienced exactly the same problem as Starkins when I used SP56409.exe to update the BIOS of my HP Pavilion p7-1148p desktop, except that SP56409.exe actually reported that it had successfully installed. The next time I rebooted, the computer started normally and my usual desktop came up onscreen. Then, a few seconds later, a popup note said that the computer could no longer communicate with its USB ports. A couple of seconds after that, the screen went black, and stayed black in spite of all my efforts, including CMOS battery removal/replacement as you suggested. I wrote HP at <pavilion_support_en@mail.support.hp.com> and, long story short, they sent me a shipping box and label, it was Fedexed next-day service to their repair facility in Indiana where they replaced the motherboard in one day, and they sent it back in perfect working order and all contents of the hard drive intact. The whole process took 6 days and didn't cost me a cent (of course my computer is still under warranty). Great job! And no more BIOS upgrades for me, thanks!
