Data Execution Prevention

First of all, I hate Windows 7. I cannot download plans from any site. Internet Explorer just shuts off when I try to download from a trusted site. I'm told the problem is Data Execution Prevention whatever that is.  If anyone has had a similar problem and rectified it, please let me know how you did it.

If you really feel that you must, then you can modify what DEP does. I do not recommend disabling it

DEP is actually protection from malware and viruses.

I have never found it necessary to disable DEP. I use a third party Internet protection suite and firewal.

Re: Data Execution Prevention

Disable DEP?

You can not disable DEP this way, read what the two options says.

It's only two ways to use DEP.

"Turn on DEP ..........."

and

 "Turn on DEP..........."

To disable DEP you have to edit "bcdedit.exe", but it can cause a lot of trouble, stay away.

You are correct.  I modified my previous post's image.

Another option would be to try a different browser if one is giving you trouble at a particular website.

Do try to be a bit more positive. :smileywink:

You haven't even answered questions that I have asked you from my first reply. That would be a good start.  Without your providing information when requested, how can you expect resolution of the issue?

Have you tried another browser yet?

You haven't defined what I asked you about what you meant.

Re: Data Execution Prevention

Sorry about that. I've never had these problems with Windows XP. I looked back at your replies and I don't know what questions I didn't answer. I tried to change the settings with your procedure before you suggested that. I don't have a SYSTEM AND MAINTENANCE choice. My choice is SYSTEM AND SECURITY. When I went there I was given a choice DEP on or off. I clicked on that to turn off certain programs. I didn't see websites! I saw programs. I don't want to turn off DEP for a program. I'm trying to be positive about this but, it's more than a little frustrating. I've had Windows 7 for 2 months and I've been into computers for at least ten years starting with Windows 98. So, I'm not an idiot as far as PC's go. This is the worst .  It doesn't seem that everything is buried in Windows 7, it is. You have to dig for anything you need to find. No, I didn't try a different browser. I don't see any reason I should have to do that!!!

OK. No problem. If you don't want to try troubleshooting the issue it is your choice.
When something that one tries in one browser does not work, then the next step is to try it in another browser. The reason being that not all websites are optimized for all browsers. As an example there are online banking websites that will only work properly with Internet Explorer and no other browsers (Firefox, Opera and others). that is the reason you should try another browser.

What are you using in terms of a firewall and virus/adware/malware protection?

Actually Windows 7 is considered by many, myself included, to be the best operating system that Microsoft has released to market.

If you are using Windows 7 then the image that I posted should be accurate. That is the operating system that is booted on this PC at the moment.

What I meant to ask you was what you meant when you said "download plans from any site".

@Kupaku48: Lets keep this on track. I don't plan on joining your flame war. If you really want to help the original poster like I do, then contribute and help with the troubleshooting.
