Hi
I am getting the same problem but I am on windows vista. Been having the problem for 2 years now. Have sent my laptop to HP quite a few times now and all they do is change the motherboard, but i still have the same issue.
I think its a common fault with HP Laptops and i dont understand why HP does not recall all of them as so many people have had the same issue.
I am so frustrated after having this problem for 2 years which no solutions and now it seems to be getting worse. Sometimes i have to swtich my laptop on and off around 5 times before itn goes on. Then it tells me to do a windows repair which doesnt do much. The screen then starts blinking, lines all of the screen and then i get the error message diplay driver not responding nvlddmkm stopped responding.
Does anyone have a solution, as i know before a solution was to uninstall update KB952287, but that doesnt seem to work anymore. I am just getting angry, as you spend over £800 on a laptop and then for 2 years it never seems to work properly.

Yo, Vista 32bit having same problem.
started two days ago out of the blue, i think maybe because of windows updates.
ran a game (minecraft) and it crashed, bsod-ed me, couldn't boot in normal mode after that at all.
safe mode was fine though. The internet is full of completely different tedious "fixes" and none so far have worked.
I ended up reformatting my system, reinstalling windows and all that.
Actually helped... the crashes have been reduced to small hangs at any given moment after which my computer tells me "nvlddmkm.sys driver stopped functioning properly but has recovered" or something along those lines... games certainly don't work yet (especially my beloved minecraft..) but at least i can get into normal windows. anyway, microsoft updates after that (84 of them...) brought it right back to it's screwed up condition and i could no longer boot at all. system restored it back to before those 84 updates and here i am now. So i'm fairly certain one of those updates definitely screws something up royal, but probably ain't the main problem.
So i turned to Nvidia, aparently they can't really help because they aren't responsible for the cards in notebooks as the manufacturers screw with them to some degree. there's relatively no support for this issue on their site... Microsoft was useless, so i'ma looking at you HP, what the hell is wrong with my computer? and why does no one on this planet know exactly why this **bleep** happens..ridiculous...
Specs:
HP Pavilion dv6700 Notebook PC
Vista Home Premium 32 bit
Intell Core2 Duo CPU 2.00Ghz
2Gb Ram
Nvidia GeForce 8400M GS
Please please please please please respond, and preferably have an actual fix, or REASON for this happening. because i don't want to deal with this awful crap for years like some have.
