HP Recovery Manager Application Update

Hello,

I've been wondering about this since I first upgraded to Windows 7.

After upgrading to Win 7, the recovery function (F11) wouldn't work on my system. I've found that if I install sp44455.exe it would resolve the problem. But it gives me an error "The update did not complete sucessfully . (259)"

I did some search and found that if I did a clean install (which I did) this update wouldn't work.

I never touched HP partition D: and I want to know if I can recover them.

Anyone can help me?

Hello sky_ksw, It seems that when you perform a fresh installation, the Master Boot Records gets rewritten. This would account for the F-11 procedure not working.

If you had performed an upgrade from Vista, the Master Boot Record would have remained intact.

Can you advise if the Windows 7 install was from the HP Windows 7 upgrade or a Retail version?

If so, the HP Windows 7 upgrade set also has another application and drivers disk that should be used.

The only way to go back to the original Vista installation now, would be to order a set of HP Recovery Restore Disk.

The service pack you list is not intended to correct the issue you seem to have with the F-11 key not accessing the HP Recovery Restore partition.

It shows:

  • Enables System Recovery on systems upgraded from Windows Vista to Windows 7.
  • Resolves issue with the system booting into Windows instead of the recovery partition when pressing the F11 key.
  •

This suggest an upgrade and not a fresh install.

Re: HP Recovery Manager Application Update

    Hello

Clean install was from HP Win7 Upgrade.

I should've made an recovery disk when I still had Vista. lol

    Thanks!
