Media Smart Photo software

How do I turn off Media Smart Photo?  It acts as if it is the default photo handling software and automatically opens whenever I have photo files available.

Thanks.

Re: Media Smart Photo software

Hi,

Right click on a photo and select 'Open With'.  Next, click 'Choose Default Program'  and then click to highlight the program you wish to be the default for opening your photos.  Make sure that there is a tick in the box next to 'Always use the Selected Program to open this kind of File' and then click Ok.  If your photos are a mixture of file types ( ie jpeg, png etc ) you will need to repeat this process for each file type.

Hope this helps.

Best wishes,

Re: Media Smart Photo software

David,

I set default program for viewing photos and also set the default program for handling raw photos files from my compact flash cardl .  When I put a compact flash card in the computer , it automatically opened the HP Media Smart Photo program, in full screen view.  Then it takes multiple clicks and some waiting to close the Media Smart program.

I usually use Photoshop or Lightroom to handle photos and always use Lightroom to import them.  I wish I could turn off Media Smart so it does not open unless I ask it to.

I can probably uninstall the program if there is no other way to manage it.  But I would prefer not to lose the Media Smart program in case it is useful in the future.

Thanks for the help,

John

Re: Media Smart Photo software

Hi John,

Hold down the Windows key on the keyboard and press R.  Into the Run Box type msconfig and hit enter.  Click the Start-Up tab and look if HP MediaSmart Photo is listed here.  If it is, remove the tick from the box next to the entry and then click Apply to make the change.  Restart the PC and see if this has helped.

Best wishes,

Re: Media Smart Photo software

I forget about things like MSCONFIG, which I should check periodically.

I unchecked Media Smart in startup.  I bet that solves my problem.
