I purchased a Pavilion 6600 and it is obsolete the day I took it home. The first call that day,of course, was tech support and the support rep stopped me and told me he would end the call and pick up where we left off the next day at 12:00 noon according to Him,not me...in other words he bailed out and dictated to me what conveniences were not left for me.Than The Norton enticement, well,I decided to call tech support again because I had a security breach with vulnerabilities and worms. The first thing I was asked for was;"Would I purchase the entire Norton ?" I also find it amazing that when you give these outsourced Tech reps info they need to repeat and repeat and repeat asking you to repeat what you say, however, ask them a question at a low tone or volume about their homeland and Boy O' Boy they understand you.My new Pavillion was restored and recovered many times within weeks because the Norton failed to update and if you wanted the so called free enticement, well you did not receive the 2009 update and you were left with no security and needed to spend $9.00 for a call to Norton and sacrifice down to 10 days of free trial period.I am Savy and went to the retailer where they paid for and installed Kaspersky which has been Flawless. The charge was free because of my reporting these issues to the highest level in the corporation...the PR & Marketing department.
The PC still continues to have issues such as there are no recovery disk or even for that matter the lightscribe featured disk or HP disk needed for using this machine.I found 1 package of clearenced out disk at Wal-Mart and the retailers gave me some Verbatoms for recovery. The desighners of software desighn the programs to fail at particular times causing corruption and the PC's to be obsolete. They also produce and outsource the products parts and assembly causing emotional and unproductive random anxiety for the consumer.
I do not want anyone else to suffer and grieve the way I have spending more time on the tech support lines with misinformation, lies and horrific selling and sales tactics. The internet also allows third world countries to mass produce counterfiet products in this day and age and I feel as though we relive the Bootleg product frightning experiences now on a daily basis...like the Gillette fusion razor...different colors for whomever uses the razor knows it's theirs instead of supplying stickers or color coded attatchments. Also Gilletes one lubrication strip has now become an indicator strip falling to the counterfiet situation.Also...The DTV transition is actually a government mandated splitting of the 100% bandwidth and the 50% half is goin to Homeland security as the other half is being bitterly biddied on by communication companies. The DTV boxes should be in every household because if your cable provider has an outage your left with no TV.The media fails to instruct us along with the FCC as they sleep together.
I guess you need the right amount of money,in the right brown bag, placed on the correct park bench in order to get what you need in todays marketplace.
The facts are that the housing and car companies were what ran our economy, however, all to often we forget this and now these companies have done better overseas...getting their last drops of bail out moneies and getting outta town as this dumbed down country sees it's final days as nukes are tested in Korea evey day and the once strongest and richest nations in the world is nothing less than a democracy which was nothing but a 200 year old experimental government which is failing us as tent cities grow and dollars shrink.
Thanks for allowing me to vent, rant and determine that I am sick and tired of getting the run around and ripped off! So helpfull and nice Thanks HP Total care...I guess I'm eating cat food for the week as I need to get a new computer. The consumer needs to know the true facts in order to make the right decisions and the media fails us drasticly,as they also lose their jobs and newspapers close as journalist and awareness are disregarded unjustifable risk left to any and everyone on the internet. The established lesson here is that things never go smoothly and strict liability is a thing of the past!
Subjective and Objective cross examination of closing the gap on the retailers unreasonable selling and an unbalanced and unfair world where once people only made the error, however, now software and human error goes hand in hand in a bygone land!
Have a Good Day... ![]()

Barry, this is the wrong place to rant. You should write a letter to HP HQ. We are volunteers simply helping people with their problems. If you come here with a problem, we will do our best to help your solve it.
Now, here is my take on your rant. If you read what you said carefully, it will become apparent that your problems are with the software (Norton and Vista), not the hardware (HP). As for being obsolete the day you brought it home. this is where due diligence will pay off. When I bought my last computer, I spent six months researching my requirements. Of course, I had to change my choices a couple of times, because new hardware is being released daily. In the end, however, I got a computer that is still giving me good service 2-1/2 years later. Okay, I upgraded the video card, but that is it. My point is, do your homework before you buy and you will be far more satisfied.
If you will make another post stating the problems that you want help solving, we will do our best.

Well, first it sounds like your a computer wizz and thats great, however,it was a gift and the story is a problem with many issues involving the Pavillion.Volunteers I thank you...HP Support forum...I followed with other storys here also of problems and they are worthy of answers for problems and it seems this story just struk a nerve or three. The debate here is only truth and God is Truth. I have had the FCC and others monitor things and so much goes on behind the scenes such as built in problems in software just for new sales...I live in truth and just wanted to let others become dilligent as you claim to be.I am a writer reviewer who has $20.000.00 of free gear just for My expertise in a certain field. Wisdom comes with experience and My experience proves the wisdom here is to look before you leap as you say...Thank you froggy...and feel free and leap if you need too.
I don't expect to be beack here...I was just writing much wisdom...
BarryTheBassESPN an educated consumer who has been there and back, worn many T shirts and threw them away...Shall I list the many questions I have read here dealing with similiar problems...Please,don't chastise me when so many have so many problems with todays technology and those behind the scenes...Thanks!....If you would like...let's keep this debate going in private now, where your sort of excuses can be addressed corecctly

Old Geekster,I apologize and do not want to seem bitter, however, the story is the whole truth and nothing but the truth,so perhaps you can give me advice on which PC ,security and card you purchased so I could do the same...I want to utilize the computer and become constructive, not destructive...I am honest and frankly as I stated,I can;t get recovery disk and accesories for this new PC and the security with the norton caused intrusions, worms and virus on the very first day of operating the unit because the PC was not fully protected as the Enticement stated it would be as a trial basis .The 2009 update did not update and My PC was attacked like the alamo...I only want friends and I again apologize. Most of all..lets face it...your communication skills and dilligence shows nothing less than you know your stuff and I bet you build PC's better than alien ware,so allow me not to alienate myself from someone who could teach me a thing or a thosand about PC's! Please have a good and safe day...I will be dealing with the retailers again as they will be taking this PC back if it does not get fixed due to they even did not remove Norton entirely as they installed Kaspersky which I received from the corporate end as I elivated the issues as soon as I purchased and found all these issues.Let;s just say back in the day behind every able man or women there were plenty more to replace them in the workforce if they did not meet job related duties and work related criteria, however,I must,as always,be honest and say you sound as though you are an exception to that rule giving devine advice, quick, curteous and trying your best where your efforts should be reflected in your paycheck with a raise. Thanks for listening, and the debate statement in pvt is true, perhaps you can relay truth in PC manufactureing, the deliberate software issues which are built in so that a PC destructs after a certain amount of time and so on...I did not want to sound as though I wanted argumentative debate or try to take a master to task, however,on the other hand,I figure you can help me overcome the many daily new and surprising problems which occur with this pavillion as I use it for nothing but writing reviews...and don't laugh as I see you now chuckling at My so called journalistic promotional poers and I can't even spell...
Geekster...Your words are true and hold water,I am just used to the verbal gymnastics and CIA type linguistics when trying to get good tech support from the warranty ...Thanks for understanding and have a great day!
Tight Lines also if you like to fish...
as always,respect and regards,
Barry
