Recovery Disc Set Failure

[ Edited ]

I have a currently crippled HP touchsmart 300-1003. I replaced a dead hard drive with a new 1TB HDD. I have available to me 2 sets of touchsmart recovery disks, and Windows 7 Bootable USB drive (made with win7 tool). The official recovery CDs only go to the swap CD screen. Nothing else happens. The pc reads MBR IS MISSING PRESS CTRL ALT DEL TO RESTART after HPLOGO.

The bios lists my new HDD (can tell because size is now 1000GB). I cannot choose USB drive as first boot in bios or boot order (this pc has two different menus for the same function, idky). Is there a bootdisk I can use to fixmbr? Please be so kind to provide a guide to getting a touch computer running from the begininng. All the advice online seems to be for computers that will go to a recovery screen already. If I could do that I wouldn't need the disks, lol.
I would like to install the touchsmart software but will settle for any windows at this point. I have 2 different sets of recovery disks from HP factory. I cannot spend anymore on disks that do not work. Yes other CDs do load, I checked an XP setup disk to ensure DVD drive is functional, then exited.

Thanks in advance to anyone that is able to walk me through the process.

1 Hour Later: To use MSWIN7 USB Tool, I had to ENABLE BOOT DIAGNOSTIC from BIOS, power on, let the black screen read Configured 01 usb drive, ctrlaltdel, f10 to bios again, disable boot diagnostic screen, save and continue f5, then hit ESC for tiny boot menu at the HP LOGO, pick USB 2.0 as first boot. The tool started windows as Repair (which I followed MSguide for bootsec and /fixmbr, no clue if that fixed mbr tho) and Install Windows 7. I picked install. More updates to come. I still want my touchsmart stuff!! The software and capabilities are why I purchased the machine. :-(

Okay so with Erico's help my steps were:

Use windows ISO and Windows USB tool to install Win7

Download USB Tool here: http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msstore/html/pbPage.Help_Win7_usbdvd_dwnTool

I'm sorry but I cannot provide you with the windows7.ISO. I have a key and followed MSguides here.

Follow MS guide on fixing MBR issue: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927392 at usb repair command prompt option

Go back-install windows 7-finish all prompts-restart

For Touchsmart Software: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?os=4063&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&sw_lang=&product=4007... Look around in there pick Upgrade from Touch 3 to 4. It will take you to DEV zone, click download now, run touch software

My answer is a mess but the disks will NOT work.

Re: Recovery Disc Set Failure

Which Windows 7 version is installed?

Is it a 32 or 64-bit version?

TouchSmart screen drivers are located here. Select the operating system appropriate version via the dropdown.

Re: Recovery Disc Set Failure

The machine orginally had 64bit loaded so I went ahead and loaded that again. The usb tool was successful at fully installing windows 7 regular no touch software. Thanks for the driver link!

Did you create the recovery disk set with yourTouchSmart PC? That is a requirement in order for them to work.

I would contact HP. Find the order information from the recovery disk set(s).

Those disks should have worked and enabled you to recover your TouchSmart PC.

The BID number is on a sticker on the back of your PC.
