Hello mbooth59
What is the exact model of your HP g7 computer? If you are unsure, follow the articles below.

How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number? (Desktop)
Are you upgrading the operating system, or re-installing Windows 8? If you are upgrading, what is the current operating system.
Does it say anything else besides restart? After restarting what happens?

Hello 33Dave
Just to verify is it the Photosmart 6520? Also how is the printer connected?
If you could, please attach a screenshot of the message you are receiving when you try to print.
Also to verify the proper driver for your printer is found at the link below.
