My desktop envy went from having the tradional desktop icons to havings all the computer apps showing on the desktop instead. I cannot figure out how to go back to having my desktop icons.  I have to now click on my computer to reach my former desktop icons.  Does anyone now how to revert back whatever changes have taken place?

I tried your suggestion but I have windows 10.  Would you know how to correct it with windows 10?

I believe you want this option, to toggle tablet mode OFF.

If all the icon have changed in to one single app then you can use the steps given in the below document to uninstall that single app:
