HP Pavilion HPE h8-1210a
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi, I currently have a HP Pavilion HPE h8-1210a Desktop PC, I'm currently having some startup issues when i try and turn on my pc. Yesterday i was playing a computer game Total war warhammer and was fiddling around with overclocking the graphics card and multiple times the screen would freeze and go black but i could still hear the game running in the background, after maybe an hour or so of trying to find the right balance to play the game, the screen went black and when i tried closing the game again and reopening it, the normal screen was very choppy and my mouse was moving very slowly. I tried to refresh the home screen page a few times but it was still running very slowly and choppy, I then tried to restart my computer but while it was restarting the screen went black again and now i can't do anything on my computer as it continually goes to a black screen and the monitor keeps searching for a signal. Should i try opening up the computer and see if something has been damaged or has the computer itself disabled either the video/graphics card or something else? What have i done to the computer? have i fried the RAM or the video/graphics card? How do i resolve this issue? please help me I'm currently a university student with asssignments due next week and i can't even get my computer to work properly.

Hey there! @Steve144, Thanks for stopping by HP forums!

I understand your PC boots to a black screen.

Don't worry I will try to help you out.

Are you able to boot into BIOS?

As you mentioned you just see a black screen on your PC.

Try removing the graphics card from your PC and check if you are able to see the screen.

Also, try reseating the memory on your PC, Try with a single memory on a different memory slot.

Refer the upgrading and service guide for more information.

Hope to hear from you soon!

Cheers! 🙂

Yup i removed the graphics card and put it back in, works perfectly fine now. Thanks for your help!

I have another question as well if you don't mind giving me a hand with is this: what kind of graphics card model would be a great replacement to buy and replace instead of the current graphics card inside my current computer? i think the graphics card is something like a Nvidia GeForce GT545 3gb, i'd would like to be able to play games such as Total War Warhammer at a high detail setting or even better but i don't know what kind of graphics card would be able to acheive this or would i just need to upgrade my RAM aswell? and in terms of the motherboard do i need to do anything to that aswell? i haven't really touched the motherboard before and don't know about bios settings or anything like that.

Can you suggest a few decent graphics card models that would allow me to play games like Total War Warhammer at high to ultra setting.

@Steve144, It's great to hear from you again. I was indeed waiting for your response.

I am happy to hear that your issue got resolved.

However, as per your other question, you have a 2.0 slot, which means you can put any type of card you want in there (with the Power Supply permitting, PLEASE make sure your Power Supply meets the power requirements of the card you want to put in your computer BEFORE purchasing it!). Whether it's a 2.1 card, 2.0 card, or even a 1.0 card, they'll all work in PCI-e slot expect fort generation 3 and above graphics cards.

I have checked the specifications of the graphics card Nvidia GeForce GT545 and it is compatible with your PC.
