Pavilion 22-a113w (all-in-one)
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

After the Fall Creators Update, my touchscreen no longer works. I have tried *everything*. ((I've been working on this for over a year now))

In device manager, sometimes the driver shows when I enable 'Show Hidden Devices', sometimes it doesn't show at all.  ((Additionally, the update made my DVD drive disappear as well. But, that one *does* show when I have it show hidden devices.))

Also, in device manager, under USB controllers, I have a yellow triangle with an 'Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed). When looking at the properties for this, currently it says 'Code 43', however, it will occasionally change and say 'Code 45'.

I have found that sometimes, I am able to delete the Unknown USB Device, and then, the touchscreen and dvd will come back. ((that has happened about three times)) But 99% of the time, deleting the Unknown USB Device, and then 'Scan for hardware changes', all that happens is the list will refresh itself 3 times, and the yellow triangle is back.

I have tried restoring, refreshing, factory resetting, and every single thing found in threads on forums and none of them work. However, I do know for a fact that it is not hardware related.

Welcome to the HP Support Community

Let's perform a BIOS defaults.

1. Turn off the computer and wait five seconds.

2. Press the Power button to start the computer and repeatedly press the F10 key to enter the BIOS setup menu.

3. On the BIOS Setup screen, press F9 to select and load the BIOS Setup Default settings.

4. Press F10 to Save and Exit.

5. Use the arrow keys to select Yes, then press Enter when asked Exit Saving Changes?

6. Follow the prompts to restart your computer.

Then, I suggest you download and run the HP Support Assistant from this Link: https://www8.hp.com/us/en/campaigns/hpsupportassistant/hpsupport.html?jumpid=va_r602_us/en/any/psg/p...

HPSA will automatically search for all the latest drivers for your Notebook

  1. Click My devices in the top menu, and then click Updates in the My PC or My notebook pane.

Click Updates in the My notebook pane

  2. Click Check for updates and messages to scan for new updates.

Updates list in HP Support Center

  3. Review the list of updates. Updates with a yellow information icon are recommended. Updates with a blue information icon are optional.

  4. Click the update name for a description, version number, and file size.

  5. Select the box next to any updates you want to install, and then click Download and install.

Also, ensure Windows is up to date.

Select the Start button, and then go to Settings  > Update & security  > Windows Update, and select Check for updates. If Windows Update says your device is up to date, you have all the updates that are currently available

Keep me posted, how it goes!

Thank you for your response.

I have tried both of those things, and neither have made any difference. Support assistant had nothing of use, and changing BIOS to defaults did nothing.

Also, my machine is all up to date.

Check if the touch screen works in BIOS.

Follow the below steps to boot into BIOS page.

1. Turn on or restart the computer.

2. While the display is blank, press the f10 key to enter the BIOS settings menu.

If you are facing the same issue in BIOS this could be a hardware issue.

If the touch screen is working in BIOS.

Refer to this document: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c03488148 Troubleshooting Touch Screen Issues.

Keep me posted, how it goes!

Have a great day!

Cheers:)
