I run a windows vista hp 32 bit pc, model Hewlett-Packard a6355.uk.  I accidently deleted the settings in environment variables.

The settings I nead are the system variable path and the variable ComSpec.  Somebody please help.

Thank you in advance.

Hello Gerard_1965, You might try performing a Windows Restore Point, by going to the Start Orb, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, System Restore, and select a Windows Restore Point before you deleted the settings.

This may or may not work, but it may be worth a try.

Hello Gerard_1965, Here  is a link that has some information about the issue you are experiencing.

Below is some sample settings that may be of some use. These might not work on your system, but they may.

Control Panel\System and Security\System\Advanced System Settings\System Properties ..

User Variables

TEMP = %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Temp

TMP = %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Temp

System Variables

ComSpec = %SystemRoot%\system32\cmd.exe

FP_NO_HOST_CHECK = NO

NUMBER_OF_PROCESSORS = 8 (Cores And Virtual Cores)

OS = Windows_NT

PATH = C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Windows Live;C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Windows Live;c:\Program Files (x86)\NVIDIA Corporation\PhysX\Common;%SystemRoot%\system32;%SystemRoot%;%SystemRoot%\System32\Wbem;%SYSTEMROOT%\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\;C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Live\Shared

All  these variables are located in the registry, and when the registry gets corrupt, which is essentially what yours seems to be, usually a fresh install of the operating system is the best way to correct a corrupted registry unles you have a current registry backup.

Dear Hanspuuppa.

Thank you for your reply.  It is a great deal of detail, some I recognize.  So I will work through your suggestions and see what happens.

Many Thanks
