 Hello,

I have an officejet j4680 and I have been having problems with the alignment ever since I installed an OEM / Genuine HP  901XL black cartridge into the machine a few months ago.

I did the alignment and it stated that it was not aligned properly and it sent me to a page regarding incompatible cartridges

http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01818...

I followed all of the steps there but it was still giving me the same error.  It got late and I ended up shutting everything down for the evening.  The next day everything was working fine so I left well enough alone.  However, as of this morning when I did some printing I have absolutely no margin at the top of the page and extra space at the bottom.  I again tried to align the cartidges again with the same exact results and link for more assistance.

I have also followed all of the instructions on the link for the Alignment Failed message displays on the control panel (even though I never get that message on the control panel) http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01637692

The ink cartridge does not expire until 2011/11/07 and according to the link http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00206040   this is not an expired cartridge so that should not be the problem.  Besides - when it was installed it was back in May of 2011.

I have tried all of the steps multiple times to resolve the issue with no luck.  Most recently I am also getting a message about a paper jam when there was none (during the alignment process)

I did find a page on bypassing the print cartridge alignment but for the officejet j4600 series it states to press and hold the settings button and then press ok.  Exactly which button is the setting button.  I have a setup button but don't see a settings button.  the link with that info is for Solving Print Cartridge Alignment Issues -  http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/buu00657

But I can't follow those steps if I don't know which button is the settings button (and all of the information I have or can find only shows a setup button.

Also, if I do the alignment without first removing and then reinstalling the printer cartridge and I just use the keyboard on the printer itself to do the alignment then when the alignment is complete it does state Alignment Done! but the problem is still there.  If I take the cartridge out and then use the solution center or whatever box it is that pops up when you have replaced / installed a new print cartridge into the printer to do the alignment process, then I get the error about alignment not done properly (or whatever that darn message is) and sending me to the link for incompatible cartridges - http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01818....

and / or the link for Alignment Failed http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01637692

The other thing is that the only occurred when I started to use the HP 901XL cartridge in the printer and I did not have the problem when I was using the basic 901 black cartridge.

Any Assistance would be Very Much Appreciated.

Does anyone happen to have any suggestions?  I have not replaced the HP 901XL cartridge with a regular black HP901 cartridge and I am still getting the same issues.

This is very frustrating!  The cartridges are OEM cartridges that  I am using and have not been refilled either.  If I could figure out how to bypass the printer alignment I would do that but the information on doing that at http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/buu00657  really don't explain how do it for this printer.  At the bottom of that page it does state to press and hold the settings button and then press ok --- but there is no settings button on the J4680 all in one printer.

Anybody???

Hi,

The table at the bottom of this document covers the OJ J4600 series, so this should work for your J4680. Are you still having problems with the alignment? And you're using genuine HP?
