HP Officejet 4622

I bought new black ink first since that was all that I needed. The other colors were very low, but not yet completely done. They still showed up in the print report, though they were not as strong as if full. The black still wouldn't print at all. It was completely blank where the black should be. There were no error messages.

I followed all  of the troubleshooting steps listed in this article: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03944809. Finally, I exchanged the ink at the store for a new one. This new one also wouldn't print even after I tried all of the troubleshooting steps.

Somebody in a forum mentioned that black ink won't work without the other colors, so I went back and bought new magenta, cyan, and yellow cartridges. Black printed poorly on the first print report that I did. I tried a second one to see if it would clear up. On the second one, black didn't print at all. The other colors are strong and brilliant, but black is completely blank. How can I make the black print?
