Not really sure what is causing this. It could be as simple as a clogged nozzel or as bad as a faulty printhead. This document should help you work it out. Let me know what happens.

Thank you for your response. I went through each step on the solution page, and nothing fixed my problem. If I have a clogged area in the printer, how do I fix that??

The only way to fix it is to do the printhead cleaning. If that's not clearing a clogged nozzel the best thing to do is check the warranty. If you're in warranty, this is something HP would replace the printer for. If you're out of warranty, you would have to get a new printer to fix the problem. You can check your warranty here. I am having the similar issues.
I purchased my HP printer in March of 2012 and had it in storage for about 6 months.
I set it up today and downloaded the latest software to print some important documents for new job, yet it is only partially printing black ink.
THIS after I bought $45 worth of ink.
Now it is out of warranty and best Buy will not buy back the ink since it is opened.
They did cheerfully offer to sell me a new HP printer for $120 ... this is upsetting. Out of warranty with a printer that won't work and $45 worth of useless ink UNLESS I buy a new printer!
