Printer won't print, I ask it to print something and it just keeps showing the word "waiting" in the status line, and there is no other document waiting to be printed.

Welcome to HP Forums,

This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips,

Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you out 🙂

As I understand the printer won't print, it seems to be stuck in the queue instead,

No worries as I'd love to help, however, I need a few more details to provide an accurate solution:

When was the last time it worked?

did you attempt to reinstall the drivers or upgrade the firmware?

Did you try using the print and scan doctor?

In the meantime, please try the below steps:

Step 1: Delete job files and restart

Whenever a print job is sent to the printer a file is created in Windows. Sometimes these files become corrupt and cause problems. To properly reset your printing environment, delete these print job files manually and restart both the computer and the printer.

Step 2: Use HP Print and Scan Doctor

HP provides a free tool called HP Print and Scan Doctor to diagnose and resolve printing and scanning problems. Download and run HP Print and Scan Doctor to quickly and automatically perform several troubleshooting tasks known to resolve this issue. When this link is clicked, HP Print and Scan Doctor is downloaded using your Internet browser's download capabilities.

Step 3: Reinstall the print driver

If print jobs continue to get stuck when printing, reset the printing software system files by removing and reinstalling the print driver.

Let me know how that pans out,

Feel free to post your query for any other assistance as well,

It's been a pleasure interacting with you and I hope you have a good day ahead.

Hi,

the printer worked fine after initial setup, I printed a couple of things, but then I opened the tray to put return address labels in to print using free Avery printing software and that is when it stopped printing and just kept showing the "waiting" in the status.

I didn't tell you I am printing using my iPad air2.  when I tried to use the HP scan doctor it was for a windows based system.

Thank you for the update,

I appreciate your time and efforts,

Since it's an iPad you are using, I recommend you try the HP Easy Scan to print and test the printer if necessary,

Also, try with a different device such as your phone or a computer to check if it works.

Keep me posted,

If the information I've provided was helpful,

Give us some reinforcement by clicking the solution and kudos buttons,

That'll help us and others see that we've got the answers!

Good Luck.
