I have installed the drivers both from the disk and from online to no avail. The computer says the driver is installed and the correct printer is selected. When I plug the printer into the MacBook USB port I get no recognition. When I hit scan on the printer I get nothing.
My pc works fine with the printer so it is not the cable or the printer.
The USB ports take flash drives with no problem.

Can you print to it? Can you scan using Image Capture in your Applications folder?

No it will not print at all. I can pull up a document to print and the MacBook has the printer icon come up briefly then goes away. When I open up the printer it says no print job. I opened Image Capture but a window came up and it said there is no Image Capture device connected; this was when I was connected to the printer. All the drivers are up-to-date. Thank you for your quick response Dean.

OK, what version of OS X is this? Also, do not plug the printer into a USB port, plug it directly into your Mac.
Let's reset the printing system:
- Go to System Preferences > Print & Fax
- Right (or control) click in the rectangle listing your printers and select Reset Printing System.
WARNING - this will delete ALL of your printers!
- Select the plus sign to re-add a printer. Select the Defualt tab on the top of the window. Look for the printer, select it and wait until the "Add" button becomes available. Click it.

Well I didn't find another cable to hook the printer up to the MacBook but I did follow the steps and lo and behold it worked! Thank you very much Dean. We're having turkey and rice tonight if you want to come over for dinner. Wendell, NC if you can make it. ;-)
