HP Pavillion Dv7 (A6X05UA)

I have been looking into recording musical instruments in my old laptop and while reading an article, it states to verify if your audio input could require Tip/Sleeve (TS) or a Tip/Ring/Sleeve (TRS) stereo cable. I couldn’t immediately find this on my manual. Is there someone that could provide this answer or how can I discover it myself?

Your machine is an HP Pavilion dv7-6c43cl Notebook PC, its specs

      https://support.hp.com/au-en/document/c03129247

It has

  • 2 SuperSpeed USB 3.0
  • 2 Universal Serial Bus (USB) 2.0
  • 1 HDMI
  • 1 VGA (15-pin)
  • 1 RJ-45 (LAN)
  • 2 Headphone-out
  • 1 Microphone-in

It does not have line-in. You can buy USB sound card with Line-in option. The Microphone in won't work properly to recording musical instruments

Regards.

I’ll be more specific, I’ve recorded my keyboard using a 1/4 to 1/8 converter and it records my keyboard pretty well, but when I tried my guitar, it had horrible noise. So I read in the article some jacks are ts and some are trs, wanted to find out if I had the wrong stereo jack. But if you think it’s better to go with a USB sound card, I can work with that.
