Hi @vidya1312,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

When you're experiencing distorted and garbled sound on your HP Pavilion Notebook, there are several steps you can take to diagnose and potentially resolve the issue. Here are some troubleshooting tips:

Check Software Volume Settings:

  • Ensure the sound is not too high or maxed out, as this can often cause distortion. Try adjusting the volume level to a moderate setting.

Update Audio Drivers:

  • Outdated or corrupt audio drivers can cause sound issues. Go to the HP support website, find the drivers for your specific model, and install the latest audio driver.

Test With Different Applications:

  • Check if the sound issue occurs only in specific applications or all of them. If it's just one application, try reinstalling it.

Check the Audio Settings:

  • Go to the Sound settings in your control panel or system settings. Make sure the correct playback device is selected and configured properly.

Use Windows Troubleshooter:

  • Windows offers a built-in troubleshooter for resolving sound issues. You can access it by right-clicking the sound icon in the taskbar, selecting 'Troubleshoot sound problems', and following the prompts.

Check for Windows Updates:

  • Sometimes, a Windows update can resolve hardware issues. Check for and install any available updates.

Inspect Hardware Connections:

  • If you're using external speakers or headphones, ensure they are properly connected. Try different speakers or headphones to determine if the issue is with the device.

Reset Audio Settings:

  • In the sound settings, you can reset all sound preferences to their default settings, which might resolve any configuration issues causing the problem.

Perform a System Restore:

  • If the problem started recently, performing a system restore to a point when the sound was working correctly might help.

Hardware Issues:

  • If none of the above steps work, there might be a hardware issue with your notebook's audio system.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
