Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

First up, I'll give the driver version and date, along with what appears in device manager for my microphone.

Audio inputs and outputs

Microphone Array (Realtek High Definition Audio)

     Speaker/Headphone (Realtek High Definition Audio)

Stereo Mix (Realtek High Definition Audio)

The Driver Date, and Version are exactly the same on all 3:

     Provider: Microsoft

     Date: 15/07/2016

     Version: 10.0.14393.0

As for all my other audio drivers, they are up to date and functioning correctly. I've downloaded the very latest Realtek drivers for this model laptop from the HP website.

As for the microphone, it works, just not very well.

There is only really one setting that effects the quality of the microphone and it is this:

HP Noise Cancellation

Which is found under 'Bang & Olufsen Audio Control' inside Control Panel.

When it is turned off, it sounds like I'm talking inside a wind tunnel, but my voice is very clear.

When it is turned on, the wind tunnel effect is gone, you hear only my voice which is great, except it echoes and is not very clear.

For gaming, these are both absolute SH#T.

My questions is, the drivers above are provided by MICROSOFT. I can't seem to find a driver or piece of software that comes from either HP, realtek, or Bang & Olufsen to use.

How do I fix this? I've tried a thousand different audio combinations from every setting I could possibly find, and it does nothing!

Thanks in advance for your help!

**edit**. And yes I've toggle on/off every setting including disabling sound effects, options for only my voice and multiple voices (hp noise cancellation) and every single setting I could find in Windows Audio Properities. None of it helps..

@Dan86

Welcome to the HP Forums 🙂

I would like to take a moment and thank you for using this forum, it is a great place to find answers.

As I understand the headphone do not have the required quality while using it on your laptop and here's what I need you to do:

Since they work on the alternate device,

please see the steps below to resolve the disturbance:

  • Click the Start Pearl and then type Sound in the Start Search Box.
  • Select Change Sound Card Settings in the Start Menu Options.
  • Next, under the Playback Tab, right click and select Show Hidden Devices and Show Disconnected    Devices if available.
  • Select Headphones and enable

To Increase the volume on your headphone:

Method 1

  • Right-click the volume icon in the notification area.
  • Click Open Volume Mixer and increase the volume for Headphones.

Method 2

  • Right-click the volume icon in the notification area.
  • Go to Playback devices and right click Headphones under Playback.
  • Go to Properties and set the volume to the maximum under Levels tab.
  • Click Apply and OK.

Method 3

  • Disable the stereo mix
  • follow the image shown below to access it and disable by right clicking on it as its know to clear echo or interferences on headphones,

Keep me posted,

If I have helped you resolve the issue, feel free to give me a virtual high-five by clicking the 'Thumbs Up' icon below,

Followed by clicking on "Accept as solution" from the drop-down menu on the upper right corner,

Thank you for posting in the HP Support Forum.  Have a great day!
