I would like to play 5.1 Surround sound Music from my laptop. I can buy an external sound box to connect my speaker.  Will the USB port support surround sound?

It is up to the external sound card which can decode signals from USB ports. In short: yes, you can use USB port on your machine to connect to a 5.1 or 7.1 external sound card.
