There's a quiet noise that I can only describe as a "static" noise which comes from my laptop when it is on, at first I thought it was the SSD just being written to and read but it also happens a little louder when I use my touchpad. When I scroll the noise becomes louder and the faster I move the touchpad, the louder the noise is. It also happens when I attatch a USB mouse but a lot louder.

I can't really distinguish where the noise comes from, I think it is the speaker but I could be wrong.

The OS is fully updated through Windows Update and fully updated through HP Support Assistant.

Welcome to the HP Forums,
I hope you're well 😉

As I understand If you move the touchpad or USB mouse there is a noise coming out of the computer,

To clarify, did you have any accidents with the computer such as dropping it on the floor?

Any overheating issues as such?

That said, don't worry though as I have a few recommendations:

  • Updating your Notebook computer BIOS
  • Keeping notebook air vents clear and clean
  • Increasing the efficiency of the notebook to reduce heat
  • Using Windows Task Manager to identify corrupt processes
  • Selecting power saves settings to shut off your computer when it is not in use

The laptop has never been dropped and never overheated. I always keep everything up-to date in HP Support Assistant, so the BIOS is updated.

It seems that the touchpad is no longer making that noise unless I scroll on a really long page, fast. Could that be because the laptop has just been turned on and is cool? It still makes the noise with the USB mouse.

I will try to keep it cool and see if that help, thanks.

I have even tried a HP USB Wireless Mouse and the issue persists...
