HP ENVY Laptop PC  BU ICTO DSC 940MX2GBi7-7500 fSSD 17-u1 (Oct 2016)
Product number / Model #: YOF94AV

One at a time deleted All audio drivers & reinstalled from web download. NONE noted as Smart Audio.

This seems to cause a reduction in frequency of the error message. BUT since I do not know the cause, because the report pops up even when not using audio. I cannot force the error to reoccure.

Got a call from hp with suggestion to "deleted All audio drivers & reinstall from web download". So I followed direction and, Did it again. The tech on the phone had no idea what Smart Audio was. His fix attempt was a shotgun approach like mine was.

Smart Audio reinstall  direction popup has only occured twice ranther than near every hour  since reinstalls of audio drivers.

Does ANYONE know what Smart Audio is? And what programs call or might call Smart Audio? The hp tech had no idea. Or how he could find out.

There is a comment about removing Bang & Olufsen from an hp OMEN. But I do not have hours to spend finding what to do if that messes someting else up. https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Gaming-Notebooks/How-to-disable-Bang-amp-Olufsen-horrible-audio-correc...

Kina hard to fix anything and not cause other problems by just guessing.

I have the same issue with SmartAudio.  I have an HP Envy, win10 pro 64-bit, 2-days out of the box with same model number as you.  The new computer has been going through its windows updates.  Following a restart after tonight's batch of updates (KB3199986, KB3209498, and KB3206632), the same "Reinstall SmartAudio" message appeared for the first time.  If I navigate to the path listed in the message, the SmartAudio.resources.dll is indeed missing.

I wonder if Windows Defender thinks the file is malware:  https://www.reasoncoresecurity.com/smartaudio.resources.dll-971a1d5acfbaa4f10109230260d806da91779c5b...

This website hints at that.  Seems like a mix-up to me.

What can be done to freeze the pop-up or recall it so it can be fyully read? hp techs have no idea how to do this.

An update seems to have changed something. The pop-up seems to occure about once a week rather than near every hour. But it still occurs and is unpredictible. I notice no audio problems. Just the error message.

Problem Solved!

To replace the missing file causing the SmartAudio error:

1. Go to the Device Manager (search for it)

2. Near the bottom of the list is "Sound, video, and game controllers".  Expand that by clicking on the arrow.

3. Right click on the "Conexant Audio" sound card and select "Update Driver Software".

4. Search for the driver on the web.

These steps replaced the missing file and I haven't had the SmartAudio error since.

I originally posted solution last night.  Not sure why it isn't there now.

Replaced the driver more then twice. This does not seem to be an audio problem since I do not notice any audio problems. It is the lightening fast display of the Pop-Up.

Bummer. I didn't have any audio problems either, but the file being searched for was missing in my case. Have you looked to see whether your Smart audio DLL is missing?

Thankyou for the helpful solution here. I have been dealing with the pop up message everytime I restart my computer hopefully after I'm done with this it will fix my issue as well.
