Hello,

This is driving me insane

When I open iTunes / Nextflix / YouTube and play something, the sound is fine. But when the next episode / track comes on, or if I then open another application and start playing something, the sound becomes crackly / tinny / distorted. As if the sound is too loud for the speakers - though it happens even when the volume is turned right down.

I've found two things that temporarliy fix the problem.

1. If I refresh the webpage, or close the program and open it up again, the sound is fine again.

2. If I go to Control Pannel > Sound > Speaker/HP > Advanced > and change the default format.

But after doing either of those things, as soon as the next video / track comes on, the problem happens again.

Things I've tried...

  • Disable exclusive mode under Advanced tab on "Speaker/HP"
  • Updating drivers for speakers

It may be a coincidence but around the same time my laptop stopped carrying audio to my TV via a HDMI cable. If I plug it into another TV: no problems, audio and video via the HDMI cable. But it doesn't like my Sony TV anymore.

You Sir are a genius. Thank you. I don't know how many times I've tried updating the drivers or how many google searches I'd tried and had never found that doc.

Thank you.
