Hi,
Try the following.
Download the Realtek HD Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.
http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp78501-79000/sp78936.exe
When done, hold down the Windows key and press R
Into the Run window, type devmgmt.msc and hit enter.
In Device Manager, expand Sound, Video and Game Controllers. Right click the Realtek device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall.
When complete, download and reinstall the Chipset driver on the following link.
http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp78001-78500/sp78355.exe
When the Chipset reinstallation has completed, restart the notebook.
When windows has reloaded, open your Downloads folder, right click on the Realtek installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation. When this has completed, restart the notebook again and let windows fully load for a few minutes before checking.

I am SO glad there are people like you that help with these things. I have used nothing but HP printers, PCs and laptops for years, but I am sick of having to use these time-consuming work-arounds all the time! Especially when I am in the middle of something and find a problem I have to go through this length of trouble to FIX!
I am done with this, I am switching next time I get anything new, printer, computer OR laptop!
But, thank you for an answer that apparently WORKS! However, I haven't tried it yet because, as I said, I AM in the middle of a LOT of things and trying to WORK right now and cannot just shut everything down to fix their mess when it should not even be an issue. This laptop is NOT a low end machine and it cost a pretty penny!
I have had it with this ineptness.
