I upgraded to Windows 10 last night. When I attempted to configure the new Cortana assistant to listen to my microphone the system couldn't hear me. Eventually, the configuration process fails and says that my microphone is not compatible.
Anyone else run across this issue? Anyone been able to resolve it?

press window key and the x key at same time to bring up a list go to control panel select sounds
on the recording tab{ if you have a built in webcam there is a mic next to it}
choose headphones right click choose set default device
next click start then stettings then choose Time Date and Speech
from left of windows select speech then mid way down the page under Microphone click get started to calibrate
with mine i cant be to far away from the mic but once it calibrates it should work... window 10 messed up my audio as well

Thank you SO much for this. Saved me from going back to Win7.
Here is slightly modified instructions that work on my HP DV7-2157ca:
- Press Windows/Start key and the X key at same time to open the Control Panel. Select Sounds from the list.
- On the Recording tab {if you have a built in webcam there is a mic next to it}
right-click on Integrated Microphone Array and then click Enable - you should now see activity in the volume bar as soon as the mic picks up any sound. - Next click Start key then Settings then choose Time & Language.
- From left of windows select Speech then under Microphone click get started to set up your mic.
