So my wife has a HP Pavilion x360 (At least I think that is what it is, it has beatsaudio). Anyways we bought her a new laptop because this one was going out... the keyboard stopped working and then she got an error saying the computer couldn't start due to the fan not working. I opened it up and fixed the fan. I started to wipe all the data off the computer and halfway through the process it said it could not complete. Now the computer turns on, shows the HP logo for a couple seconds, then turns off ( then turns itself back on and completes the process). Anyways to bypass this without a working keyboard? We just want to get all of her info off. Thanks

Hi @LGarske,
Welcome to the HP forums! It is a great way to engage, post questions and find resolutions by working with specialists in the HP community. I understand that you need assistance to wipe the data from a failing HP notebook. I’ll gladly assist with this.
A commendable job was done by doing such copious and extensive troubleshooting before posting the question in the HP forums. It is always a great pleasure to work technically competent and technically sound customers like you. Kudos to you for that.
We greatly value your relationship with HP. We appreciate you greatly for doing business with HP and I take it as a privilege to share this platform with you.
Please perform a hard reset to see if the computer fires up. If it does not and continues to shut down and restart in a loop then it may not be possible to bypass this.
First off, If the computer is shutting down, it could be a hardware issue with it. For better clarity, and to assist you better, I would require the complete model# of the unit.
After the hard reset please try to run system diagnostics using this link: http://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c03467259 If it passes then you could do a system recovery to factory settings to wipe the drive clean from this link: http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-ENVY-15-j100-Select-Edition-Notebook-PC-series/6521373/model/...
If this does not work, then look up the user manual for an HP x360 unit. It shows you how the remove the hard drive.

The reason I requested you to remove the hard drive is because of this workaround. The other workaround would be to remove the actual hard drive. Then use an external USB hard drive enclosure and connect it to the new computer to wipe the drive clean. Please consult a local technician who could assist you with this.
I genuinely hope the issue gets resolved without hassles and things work great for you. Hope this helps. Please let me know how this works.
To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help. If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution”.
Take care now and have a splendid week ahead.
