Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

Tried to update the BIOS this evening, from F.08 to the F.29 (the latest) and laptop now hangs at boot screen. Caps lock blinks 5 times to indicated failed board but I was able to boot into Windows once. Should have used that opportunity to re-flash the old version.

Managed to boot into Windows by holding Win+B without a USB drive plugged in (took several attempts and seemed to work better if it had been powered off and unplugged awhile). Flashed to an older BIOS and no longer having problems.

I tried to follow that guide, although the setup is different, probably because this is an old machine (2009 or 2010). Extracted the BIOS files to a 16GB flash drive formatted FAT32, shut down and powered on while holding Win+B. It does seem to recognize it, as it powers on with nothing on the screen and then reboots, but still hangs at the boot screen with blinking caps lock.

Good to hear you are back up and running. On older laptops it is better to try the procedure as described in the document I linked above as it is much harder to create a working flash drive without the utility provided in later BIOS files on newer machines. Too bad they didn't mention to shut down and unplug for awhile if having a problem.
