Envy notebook brought in to our shop for not powering on. Starts to, but then dies in a couple seconds.
Customer brought in a new systemboard. Installed it, but no change in symptom.
Internal battery appears bad (half of it swollen), but same symptom with the battery disconnected.
External power adapter not customer's but almost certainly good. Has right voltage and lot more amperage than spec. Amber light seen at laptop plug.
Fan runs normally.
RAM sticks swapped, replaced, no change.
Tried hard drive, OS installed, no change. Tried hard drive, new, no OS installed, never got as far as error message about missing system files. Put original hard drive back.
Sometimes, somehow, can get into BIOS. All settings seem correct.
Somehow was able to get into and use hours-long HP diagnostics. EVERY TEST PASSED. Would seem to rule out systemboard, RAM and CPU, no?
Ideas, please?
