HP 14-AC146TU1 Notebook
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

I need to boot ubuntu on my HP 14-AC146TU1 Notebook . I made a bootable ubuntu USB drive and a bootable ubuntu CDROM. I changed the EF1 boot order to:
Usb cd/dvd rom drive
Internal cd/dvd rom drive
usb diskette onkey/usb hard disk
! network adapter
> os boot manager

I tried to boot the USB in all ports and tried to boot the CDROM, but the system booted up into Win10.

I enabled legacy support and changed the legacy boot order to:

usb cd/dvd rom drive
Usb diskette on key/usb hard disk
! Network adapter
> notebook hard drive

Again I tried to boot the USB in all ports and tried to boot the CDROM, but the system booted up into Win10.

I tried to boot several other bootable CDROMs which I have booted on other machines. The system booted up into Win10. In Win10, the CDROM drive shows the correct labels for the CDROMs.

The notebook info is:

Product  number: p3u58pa#uuf
Serial number: [Personal Information Removed]
BIOS version: f.1a

Hi,

Rather than changing the boot priority in the bios, see if you can start an installation from the boot manager menu as follows.

Insert the installation disc ( or flash drive and Shutdown the notebook with the media still inserted.

Tap away at the esc key as soon as you press the power button to enter the Start-up Menu and then select the Boot Options Menu ( f9 ).

Use the arrow keys to highlight the CDROM or Flash drive option and hit enter - if prompted to 'Press any key to continue....' - do so.

Thanks DP-K. Those steps allow me to book from alternative devices -- something I've done on other computers by changing the boot order in the BIOS settings.

I'm now wondering what (if any) effect changing the boot order in this HP 14-AC146TU1 Notebook's BIOS has. That's just curiosity at this point, though. You've gotten me past the roadblock which had me stopped.

Hi,

You're welcome :generic:

My personal experience is that the boot priority in the bios is often ignored anyway, however, there should be no problem if you want to change it back to the previous order.

All the best,

DP-K
