- I press the power button.
- Computer powers up.
- I see the Windows 8.1 logo and the doting thingy that goes in a circle.
- After a minute, when the password screen is supposed to show up it simply goes blank (black).
Please help.

Hi @Master_Live_013,
Thanks for stopping by the HP Support Forums! Good day. Hope you are doing well.
I understand that the computer goes to a black after the windows logo. It will be a genuine pleasure to assist you here.
You are a valued HP customer and we appreciate you greatly for doing business with HP. I have reviewed the situation and it is paramount that we address your issue. Thank you for giving us the privilege to assist you on this platform. Excellent research and brilliant diagnosis were done before posting your query. Kudos to you for that.
First off, we need to diagnose correctly if the issue is hardware or software related.
Please perform a hard reset from this link: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01684768
Then power on the computer and check if it works If it does not, then perform the diagnostics for the unit.
Please perform complete system diagnostics from this link: http://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c03467259
If it reports a failure code please make a note of it. It will list the failure code for failed components. It takes about 2 hours to run.
If the diagnostics pass, then you could perform a system restore to a good known working date before the issue started. Link for system restore: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03327545
If that does not work then you will need to perform a system recovery to an earlier time before the issue started. Link: http://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c03489643
If it fails please contact HP phone support to get the unit serviced. If the unit is under warranty, repair services should be covered by the manufacturer’s warranty. You could look up the unit’s warranty by visiting this link: http://support.hp.com/gb-en/checkwarranty/ and select the country of purchase and follow the on-screen instructions. Link to visit HP phone support: http://hp.com/contacthp Please select the country of purchase and follow the on-screen instructions.
